Regulations and Rules

English Schools’ Swimming Association (ESSA) is a charity (Registered Charity No. 282020) governed by its constitution, which must be read in conjunction with these Regulations.

The governing regulations and rules are arranged in a hierachy of:

ESSA constitution

The ESSA constitution can only be revised through a general meeting.
The ESSA anual general meeting (AGM) is typically held in January each year.

ESSA Regulations

ESSA is directly affiliated to Swim England and therefore are subject to and bound by relevant Swim England Articles, Company Regulations, General Regulations, Judicial Regulations and Technical Rules of the Company or any rules of Aquatics GB.

The ESSA Regulations set out specific regulations that are relevant to the nature of schools' aquatics competitions and activities.

 

ESSA Protests and Appeals Protocol

Protests and (Protest) Appeals during competitions held in England and promoted by ESSA which are licensed under Swim England regulations and rules follow the relevant Swim England Regulations and Technical Rules.

Appeals during swimming competitions held in England and promoted by ESSA which are not licensed under Swim England regulations follow the Appeals process set out in the ESSA protests and appeals protocol.

Technical Rules

Competitions held in England and promoted by ESSA which are licensed under Swim England regulations shall be held under Swim England Regulations and Technical Rules

During swimming competitions held in England and promoted by ESSA which are not licensed under Swim England regulations, ESSA Techical Rulle of Swimming are applied. 
These ‘call in’ relevant Swim England regulations and rules and identify specific variations to suit the nature of schools swimming competition.

Competetion Conditions

A set of conditions are produced by the promoter for each competition held in England and promoted by ESSA. These will be declared on the individual webpage for the event.
